Congresswoman Susie Lee Statement on Supreme Court’s Assault on Reproductive Rights

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) issued the following statement following the Supreme Court’s decision to effectively overturn Roe v. Wade:

“The Supreme Court’s decision to strike down nearly half a century of precedent granting women the right to choose is an inhumane attack on our freedoms and is the direct result of anti-choice extremists’ cruel efforts to control women’s lives. Simply put, this decision will endanger lives and sets womens’ rights back a half century. 

“The majority of Americans support the right to choose, but if Republicans take control of Congress, they will stop at nothing to enact a nationwide abortion ban. April Becker is endorsed by radical anti-choice groups that support a ban on abortion with no exceptions, and would overturn the will of Nevadans who voted to protect abortion rights decades ago. 

“Make no mistake: women will die because of this decision. Families will struggle because of this decision, and Republicans have shown us that they aren’t interested in supporting them and their children. The livelihoods of our families are at stake, and we will come out in droves in November to protect our rights and keep pro-choice leaders in office up and down the ballot. I will continue to fight against anti-choice, anti-family extremism and work to secure federal protections for abortion rights in Congress, and I know that southern Nevadans are with me.”

Congresswoman Lee’s re-election campaign has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice America and the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee.
