Susie Lee Responds to Comments by Attorney for National Right to Life

Attorney for Extremist Group that Endorsed Lee’s Opponent, April Becker, Called for 10-Year-Old Rape Victim to Carry her Pregnancy to Term

LAS VEGAS — Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) released the following statement after a National Right to Life official told POLITICO that a 10-year-old Ohio rape victim who traveled to Indiana to receive abortion care should have been forced to birth the baby, saying “as many women who have had babies as a result of rape, we would hope that she would understand the reason and ultimately the benefit of having a child.”

“I am disgusted by these comments from National Right to Life, which are heartless and inhumane. This is a 10-year-old child—still in elementary school—who has experienced a terrible trauma. The notion that she should be forced to carry her rapist’s child to term, against her will, is sickening. This is the future we are looking at in this country if Republicans take the majority in Congress. 

“My opponent, April Becker, is endorsed by extreme groups that want to see abortion banned nationwide – no exceptions.  This is just more proof that if given the chance, April Becker and her extreme allies will do whatever it takes to enact a nationwide ban on abortion and overturn the right to choose in Nevada against the wishes of the voters she wants to represent. November’s election is a referendum on choice, and southern Nevadans will come out in droves to the ballot box against April Becker and her extreme, out of touch views.”

Becker has been endorsed by radical anti-choice group Nevada Right to Life, which is the Nevada affiliate of National Right to Life and applauded the fall of Roe as “a necessary step to allow the process of ridding our nation of abortion to advance.” Becker attended the group’s gala this past May.
